Received high evaluations in research quality, international outlook, and industry-academia collaboration

In the 2026 THE World University Rankings announced on the 9th by the UK higher education evaluation agency THE (Times Higher Education), Gachon University ranked joint 15th in Korea and 501–600 globally.
Recognized as one of the world’s three major university rankings—alongside the QS World University Rankings and the ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities)—the THE World University Rankings evaluates more than 2,000 universities worldwide using various indicators, including teaching environment, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry-academia collaboration.
In this year’s evaluation, Gachon University ranked 501–600 globally and joint 15th in Korea. Other universities in the same global ranking range (501–600) include Ewha Womans University, Konkuk University, Kyungpook National University, Pusan National University, University of Ulsan, and Yeungnam University. Last year, Gachon University ranked 601–800 globally and 19th in Korea in the THE World University Rankings.
Gachon University received relatively high scores in several key areas:
Research quality (63.8 points), which includes citation impact
Industry-academia collaboration (70.0 points), which includes income from industry partnerships
International outlook (62.5 points), which includes the proportion of international students
The 2026 THE World University Rankings evaluated 2,191 universities across 115 countries. The evaluation used five main categories comprising 18 indicators: teaching environment (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income (4%).
In this year’s ranking, the University of Oxford in the UK maintained its No. 1 position for the 10th consecutive year. Among Korean universities, Seoul National University (58th), KAIST (70th), Yonsei University (86th), and Sungkyunkwan University (87th) were listed among the top 100 worldwide.
Gachon University President Lee Gilya stated,
“To enhance our university’s global competitiveness, we are actively establishing advanced departments such as semiconductors and attracting outstanding international faculty and students. We will continue to strengthen our efforts to recruit more international students, expand our professors’ global research networks, and promote joint research to further enhance the university’s competitiveness.”
